So here's something different from what I usually do... I've been listening to Brikkuni's new album 'Rub Al Khali', which if you haven't listened to yet, I suggest you do so.
This is based on one of the songs from their album 'Ċpar', which I find has beautiful lyrics.
I also wanted to use this painting as an opportunity to draw attention to bird hunting. Something I am highly against and believe should be done away with.
I included the quail and the finch as they are two types of birds which can still be hunted/trapped in Malta.
Enough ranting from my side. Here's an excerpt from Brikkuni's song Ċpar (Translation below):
Abjad libbes l-asfalt
Li minn arbli għoljin kmandaw it-triq
Widnejk trid tiftaħ biex tara
Mill-wied erġajt smajt l-eku t’armi
Jisparaw fuq it-tajr li bħal dan iż-żmien ipassi
Ħsibt li ċ-ċpar kien ser jagħtihom nifs mill-qilla tal-porvli
Li kilbet kaċċatur f’dat-temp ma setgħatx ħlief tbatti
Iżda ħadd u xejn
Mhu ser jidħol bejn
In-namra u n-namrat''

Translation (DISCLAIMER: I am in no way a translator or claim to be in any way.)
White dresses the asphalt
From the high poles that command the road
Your ears you must open to see
From the valley I have heard again the echo of arms
Shooting on birds which migrate during this season
I thought the fog would give them a break from the gunpowder
But the hunter's desire did not dwindle in this weather
But nobody and nothing
Would come in between
Passion and the lover''
